₩67 trillion ($44.2 billion) in projected bonuses from Samsung Electronics and SK hynix is expected to flow into premium apartments and imported cars, especially around their semiconductor hubs in Gyeonggi Province.
AI-driven chip profits are funding the payouts: Samsung is forecast to earn ₩343.5 trillion in operating profit and distribute about ₩41 trillion, while SK hynix is seen earning ₩255 trillion and paying roughly ₩25.5 trillion.
Dongtan, Icheon and nearby districts are already showing heat in housing, with third-week May apartment prices up 0.46% in Dongtan, 0.38% in Suji and 0.35% in Yeongtong—levels seen as overheating when weekly gains top 0.3%.
Icheon's imported-car market has also jumped after SK hynix's February bonuses, with new registrations rising 108.6% year on year to 121 in February and 81.3% to 145 in March.
The spending wave could ripple beyond local markets because the two chipmakers generated 77% of total first-quarter operating profit among KOSPI-listed companies.
