Randy Hubbs, a Kennewick-area skydiver, died after colliding midair with another jumper during a scheduled group jump near Colville around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, the Adams County Sheriff's Office said.
Authorities said the collision left Hubbs unresponsive at about 500 feet, with witnesses reporting his head and arms went limp as he drifted away from the designated drop zone and disappeared beyond a hill.
Nicole Klein of the Colville area was injured and taken for additional treatment, while deputies later responded to a medical emergency report involving two injured skydivers on E. Schoessler Road.
West Plains Skydiving said both jumpers were experienced and used their own equipment—Hubbs had logged more than 800 jumps and Klein about 900—and investigators said weather does not appear to have contributed.
The sheriff's office said 11 people were scheduled for the jump operation, several staff members witnessed the incident, and the fatal skydiving investigation remains ongoing.
