Hundreds of people drew a heavy police response Monday night at 57th Street Beach and North Avenue Beach, where officers worked to break up crowds after reports of a planned teen takeover.
57th Street Beach near Hyde Park became the main flashpoint after University of Chicago police warned of a possible 6 p.m. gathering, with people seen climbing a wall and crossing streets as officers rerouted traffic.
DuSable Lake Shore Drive backed up heavily near East 57th Drive, and part of the roadway was temporarily shut as the city urged drivers to use alternate routes.
No injuries were immediately confirmed, though ABC7 footage showed two officers escorting another officer into an ambulance while police and a helicopter remained over the area late into the night.
