Grand Rapids Public Schools said Brandy Lovelady Mitchell will remain deputy superintendent after being placed on administrative leave in March through the end of the school year.
GRPS did not disclose why Mitchell was put on leave, saying only that the district followed established processes as concerns were raised and would respect the board’s decision to continue her employment.
On April 28, Mitchell said through her attorney that her focus remained on students and staff and that she stood ready to return to work.
The dispute also drew outside support: former GRCC trustee Micah Perkins defended Mitchell at an April 13 GRPS board meeting, then resigned from the GRCC board effective April 19 for scheduling conflicts.
