A second Spanish passenger isolated at Madrid's Gómez Ulla hospital has tested positive for hantavirus, raising the total among evacuees from the MV Hondius to two.
Routine PCR screening detected the new case in a person already quarantined as a close contact of the initial infection under Spain's early warning protocol.
Twelve other Spaniards remain under medical observation, and authorities are maintaining isolation until the 42-day period required by international protocols ends.
The Health Ministry said the new case does not increase risk to the general population; the wider MV Hondius outbreak has been linked to 3 deaths and 11 infections.
