Tokyo police arrested Shinnosuke Abe on Monday on suspicion of assaulting his 18-year-old daughter by grabbing her and forcing her to the floor at the family home in Shibuya Ward.
Abe, 47, admitted the allegation and told investigators he lost his temper while trying to break up a fight between his daughters after they talked back to him.
A child guidance center alerted authorities in an emergency call shortly after 7 p.m., reporting that the daughter had been hit by her father; Abe was then arrested at home in front of his wife and daughters.
Abe took over as Giants manager before the 2024 season and led the club to the Central League pennant in his first year; the team is currently third this season.
