Charles Schwab Launches First Generative AI Tool for Retail Clients as 60% Show Interest

Charles Schwab earlier in May rolled out its first generative AI capability for retail clients, a step that reflects rising demand for AI-assisted investing and planning tools.
Nearly 1,000 Schwab retail clients were surveyed; more than 60% said they want to use AI, and nearly 70% said it can handle routine tasks or support investing alongside human expertise.
Advisors and lawyers interviewed said AI is now a regular part of client meetings, especially among younger and next-generation wealthy investors, who increasingly bring chatbot-generated analyses and second opinions to advisors.
Those professionals said AI can speed research, modeling and document drafting, but still misses client-specific facts, fiduciary judgment and regulatory context, creating risks of inaccurate advice, compliance breaches and data leakage.
More than three-quarters of organizations already use AI in financial planning, reporting and commercial analysis, according to KPMG, pushing wealth managers to treat AI as a permanent tool that needs guardrails rather than rejection.
