OpenAI said Folha de S.Paulo and UOL journalism is now available in ChatGPT, giving the platform’s 900 million weekly active users access to summaries and links based on the Brazilian outlets’ reporting.
The partnership is OpenAI’s first media deal in Brazil, where ChatGPT has more than 50 million monthly active users and handles about 140 million messages a day.
OpenAI said the agreement fits its broader push to add trusted news sources in markets including the US, UK, France and Germany, with attribution, transparency and links back to original articles.
Grupo Folha and Grupo UOL will also get access to Codex, ChatGPT Enterprise and OpenAI’s API to test newsroom products, support reporting workflows and improve business operations.

Folha de S.Paulo Sues OpenAI: Brazil’s Landmark 2025 AI Copyright Case and Its Global Implications
Overview
In August 2025, Folha de S.Paulo launched Brazil’s first major lawsuit against OpenAI, claiming its AI models used Folha’s copyrighted news content without permission, threatening both copyright and the business model of journalism. The case highlights how unauthorized AI use can undermine news organizations’ revenue and the incentive to create original content, a concern shared by publishers worldwide. Brazil’s strict copyright laws and evolving digital liability standards make this lawsuit a key test for AI regulation. The outcome could set a precedent for how AI companies must respect intellectual property and compensate content creators, shaping future AI and media relations.
