OmniDrive has been released as a firmware mod for MediaTek MT1959-based Hitachi-LG optical drives, letting PCs read proprietary discs from classic consoles including GameCube, Wii and Xbox 360.
The tool is aimed at legal personal backups, allowing owners to rip their own disc collections and use them in emulators instead of downloading game files online.
Support also extends to PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and Wii U discs, though those formats remain encrypted after ripping.
Dreamcast GD-ROMs are partly supported, with OmniDrive able to read only the low-density area, underscoring that compatibility still varies by format.
