Coffee, tea and water can help reduce cancer risk, Dr. William Li said on the Zoe podcast, arguing that everyday drinks can "tip the odds" against cancer.
Li linked the effect to the gut microbiome rather than genetics alone, saying tea catechins and coffee chlorogenic acid lower inflammation, support immunity and strengthen the body's anti-cancer response.
Matcha offers the strongest tea-based benefit, he said, because drinkers consume the whole powdered green tea leaf and its fiber, which may further nourish the microbiome.
One study cited in the report said randomized clinical trials found matcha reduces stress, slightly improves attention and memory, and may support cardio-metabolic health and anti-tumor activity.
