Marco Rubio said the U.S.-Iran package is still unfinished, cautioning reporters not to “read too much” into Trump’s claim of a deal and saying Washington was still waiting for Tehran’s response.
A senior administration official said Iran had agreed in principle to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, accept a time-limited nuclear negotiation and eliminate its stockpile of highly enriched uranium.
Rubio said delays stem partly from Iran’s slower decision-making and warned the U.S. could soon explore “alternatives” if diplomacy fails, with Trump insisting he is “not in a hurry” to make a bad deal.
The talks are entering their 12th week after Trump had predicted the conflict would end within four to six weeks, with sanctions relief, frozen oil revenues and regional disputes still dividing the sides.
