Peter Murrell appeared at the High Court in Edinburgh on Monday for a preliminary hearing on charges he embezzled £459,000 from the SNP.
The indictment alleges the former SNP chief executive diverted party funds between August 2010 and January 2023 to buy luxury goods, jewellery, cosmetics, two cars and a motorhome.
Details of the case became public in February after the Scottish Sun first reported the indictment, which BBC News said it had reviewed.
Murrell led the SNP as chief executive for 22 years and is the estranged husband of former first minister Nicola Sturgeon.
