Newsom said California sent Trump an emergency declaration request late May 23 to unlock FEMA help for Orange County while a Garden Grove hazmat incident is still unfolding.
The state said the request is aimed at potential severe impacts, including a major release or explosion tied to Methyl Methacrylate, and would support evacuations, sheltering, emergency medical aid and other protective measures.
