At Pentecost Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica, Pope Leo XIV framed the Holy Spirit as the source of peace, mission and truth, saying the Spirit still transforms believers as it did the Apostles.
Quoting Jesus’ “Peace be with you,” he said that peace flows from forgiveness and must spread outward, ending his homily with a prayer that humanity be saved from “the evil of war.”
Leo also cast the whole Church—not merely its leaders—as “co-workers of the Gospel,” saying the Spirit gives believers joy, hope and courage to witness through acts of mercy and daily life.
He warned that partisanship, hypocrisy and passing fads can obscure the Gospel, while the Paraclete protects unity in truth and turns confusion into communion with God and among people.
Calling Pentecost the fulfillment of Easter, the pope said the Spirit remains active through Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Orders and every sacrament as the Church seeks to serve the world.
