Michael Franzese said on Sean Hannity’s podcast that his father, Colombo underboss Sonny Franzese, told him Robert F. Kennedy ordered J. Edgar Hoover to target him after Marilyn Monroe allegedly cried out Sonny’s name during an encounter with Kennedy.
The former mob capo said his father revealed the story only after Franzese’s mother died in 2012, when asked why federal agents focused so heavily on their home instead of other Mafia figures.
Sonny Franzese was arrested in 1967, later convicted in a nationwide bank-robbery case and sentenced to 50 years in federal prison; he was imprisoned again in 2011 on racketeering conspiracy charges and died in 2020 at 103.
The podcast appearance also revisited Michael Franzese’s own gas-tax fraud operation, which he said brought in $3 million to $4 million a week and was part of a broader scheme involving stolen tax money.
