More than 170,000 fans have signed a petition urging Sony to greenlight Destiny 3, a total that now exceeds estimates for Marathon’s opening-week peak player count.
That push has accelerated as Destiny 2 heads toward its final update, Monument of Triumph, on June 9 and Bungie appears to be shifting resources toward Marathon instead of new Destiny development.
Paul Tassi, citing Bungie sources, said Marathon’s player split is roughly 2:1 between Steam and consoles, implying a peak of about 130,000 to 150,000 players across platforms.
June 9 has also become a rallying point for Destiny players planning a mass login to show Sony the franchise still has a large audience despite Bungie layoffs and the end of Destiny 2 updates.
The campaign faces a financial hurdle: even after Destiny 2 expansion The Final Shape performed well, Bungie still cut staff, underscoring doubts that Sony will fund Destiny 3 soon.
