San Diego County Cuts April Unemployment to 4.1% as Payrolls Add 7,200 Jobs

San Diego County’s jobless rate fell to 4.1% in April from a revised 4.3% in March, edging below 4.2% a year earlier, state labor data showed.
Nonfarm payrolls rose by 7,200 to 1,580,200, led by 2,000 government jobs and 1,900 in leisure and hospitality, while information, manufacturing and finance shed a combined 400 jobs.
California posted 5% unemployment in April and the U.S. 4%, leaving San Diego below the state rate and just above the national level.
Over 12 months, total nonfarm employment increased by 10,000, with private education and health services adding 16,400 jobs even as six sectors lost a combined 15,900, including a 7,900 drop in government.
