Grizz Chapman, the 7-foot actor who played Grizz opposite Tina Fey and Tracy Morgan on “30 Rock,” died peacefully in his sleep on May 22 at 52.
Years of illness preceded his death: cousin Donte “Hammer” Harrison said Chapman had battled sickness and dialysis, while his representative confirmed the death without releasing a formal cause.
Chapman had long faced kidney disease, underwent a kidney transplant in 2010 and spoke publicly about hypertension and kidney problems as a National Kidney Foundation spokesperson.
Born in Brooklyn in 1974, he broke into acting after meeting Morgan while working as a bouncer and later added credits including “The Blacklist,” “The Good Fight” and “Money Monster.”
