May 21 marked the start of American Airlines’ summer nonstop service from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport to Athens and Zurich, with a gate ceremony for the inaugural Greece flight.
Daily service will run through Sept. 8 on Boeing 777-300 and 777-200 aircraft; American said the Athens route is the only nonstop flight from Texas to Greece.
Jim Moses, American’s senior vice president of DFW operations, said the carrier had pursued the Athens route for years, underscoring pent-up demand for a direct link.
Greek Consul Lambros Kakissis said the new service should deepen economic, cultural, academic and personal ties between Texas and Greece.
