205 workers at Guida-Seibert Dairy’s New Britain facility will be laid off in phases starting July 20, with the plant set for permanent closure by Aug. 31.
A WARN notice sent Friday to Connecticut’s Labor Department said the shutdown is permanent and that affected employees will have no bumping rights.
The closure lands a day after Connecticut reported unemployment rose 0.2 point to 5%, though the state said claims did not increase and blamed new labor-force entrants.
New Britain is also losing about 200 jobs from Stanley Black & Decker’s Myrtle Street hand-tools plant, another blow to a city already shedding legacy manufacturing work.
