Friday, Max Kellerman said he "shouldn’t have said" his comparison of James Harden to electing Donald Trump, calling the remark unfair to Harden and too severe.
The apology followed backlash to a Wednesday "Game Over" podcast segment in which Kellerman said bringing in Harden to win a title was like electing Trump to fix the country.
Kellerman still partly defended the analogy on his Netflix podcast, saying he did not think Harden was "as bad as all that" but meant he was the opposite of the right choice for the desired result.
The flare-up adds to a long-running criticism of Kellerman for injecting politics into sports commentary, a pattern that previously drew scrutiny during his ESPN tenure.
