Ken Dilanian said FBI Director Kash Patel leaned on "basically bogus" crime statistics, alleging Patel changed counting rules so the bureau claimed arrests made by other agencies when FBI agents were merely present.
Dilanian also said Patel's FBI gamed Most Wanted numbers: 4 of 6 fugitives captured during his tenure were added to the list within a month of arrest, including two within a day.
Ben Williamson, an FBI spokesman, rejected the accusations as false and said the bureau and administration had delivered the most prolific crime reduction in U.S. history.
The criticism drew attention because Dilanian defended Biden-era FBI data in September 2024, citing a 3% drop in violent crime, an 11.6% fall in murders and 94% population coverage.
