Roy Robertson-Harris tore an Achilles tendon during Thursday's OTA practice, a likely season-ending blow to a Giants defensive line that had penciled him in as a starter.
The 31-year-old went down while rushing the passer in an 11-on-11 period, grabbed his right leg and was taken into the facility after an on-field medical check.
His injury deepens a front already reshaped by Dexter Lawrence's April trade to Cincinnati, with veterans DJ Reader and Shelby Harris now expected to carry more of the load.
The financial impact also changed: instead of a possible $3.35 million cap-saving release, Robertson-Harris' full $5.75 million cap charge will remain on injured reserve.
Robertson-Harris is the second Giant to suffer an Achilles tear in the past week after undrafted rookie cornerback Thaddeus Dixon.
