A 7-metre-high reconstruction of a 4,500-year-old Neolithic hall has been unveiled near the Stonehenge visitor centre, with the hand-built structure due to open to the public this summer.
The £1 million project is based on Durrington 68, a rare "square in the circle" footprint found two miles away near Woodhenge, whose lost floors and hearths have left its original purpose unresolved.
More than 100 volunteers spent nine months building the hall entirely by hand with replica stone tools, and its designer said the process made him more confident the ancient remains once supported a roofed structure.
English Heritage says the hall is the first phase of a wider learning expansion, with a new centre due by end-2026 and educational capacity targeted to nearly 100,000 students a year within five years.
