Chalco to Build $1 Billion Guinea Alumina Plant With 1.2 Million-Ton Capacity

$1 billion will fund Chalco’s new alumina project in Guinea, where the Chinese state-owned producer plans a plant capable of 1.2 million tons a year.
The investment is aimed at tapping Guinea’s bauxite resources, securing feedstock closer to the source for aluminum production.
Guinea’s government will receive a 5% stake for free or at nominal cost and can raise its holding to as much as 35% at market value.
