Adys Lastres Morera was taken into ICE custody after the State Department, at Secretary Marco Rubio’s direction, terminated her lawful permanent resident status.
Rubio said Morera, who had been managing real estate assets while living in Florida, aided Havana’s communist government and had ties to GAESA, Cuba’s military-run business conglomerate.
Her arrest follows US sanctions earlier this month on her sister, Ania Guillermina Lastres Morera, GAESA’s executive president.
Rubio said GAESA has diverted millions in aid and hidden as much as $20 billion overseas while Cuba faces blackouts and shortages of food, fuel and medicine.
