Jon Stewart used his podcast to denounce President Donald Trump's $1.78 billion "anti-weaponization" fund, calling it a taxpayer-funded "slush fund" and a "smash and grab" on the public.
The DOJ announced the fund earlier this week as part of a deal in which Trump dropped his $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS, fueling questions in Washington over where the money comes from and who would receive it.
Stewart said the fund showed contempt for taxpayers and mocked its branding as patriotic, arguing the administration was "trolling" the public and suggesting the 1.776 figure was a wink to 1776.
Democrats and some Republican allies have already balked at the arrangement, while the White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
