Land O’ Lakes’ Angeline development said it became the first master-planned community to deploy Beewise’s automated BeeHome system to protect pollinators serving its 2.5-acre farm.
The AI-equipped hives use cameras, sensors and robotics to track queen health, egg production and varroa mite infestations, then can automatically heat-treat sections of the hive to kill mites without harming bees.
Beewise says the system has shown a roughly 70% reduction in colony collapse versus natural loss rates, addressing threats from parasites, pesticides, disease and extreme weather.
Bees pollinate about 75% of the crops people eat and 80% of flowering plants, making colony losses a broader food-supply risk as the technology already operates across hundreds of thousands of U.S. agricultural acres.
