Houston authorities charged former Southern District of Texas U.S. Attorney Jennifer Lowery with felony failure to stop and render aid after a May 14 crash.
Court documents say Gabriel Fonseca's Nissan Altima was hit on the driver's side on Memorial Drive, his airbags deployed, and he later reported ringing in his ears and about $35,000 in damage.
A witness told police he saw a heavily damaged sedan driven by a blonde woman park a few blocks away, and officers later found a car registered to Lowery with significant front-end damage and a missing bumper.
At the home where the car was found, Lowery's husband identified himself as an attorney, confirmed his wife had been in a crash, and declined to let her give a statement, police said.
Lowery led the Southern District of Texas U.S. attorney's office from 2021 until her successor took over in December 2022, adding unusual prominence to the case.
