Forty children were identified and rescued, and 341 suspects were arrested in Southern California after a two-week internet child exploitation probe, authorities said Thursday.
Operation Firewall ran from April 19 to May 3 under an LAPD-led ICAC task force, using undercover social media investigations and residential and arrest warrants across Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.
The suspects were booked on offenses including production, possession or distribution of child sexual abuse material, lewd acts with a child, contacting minors for lewd purposes, human trafficking, and sex-offender registration or parole violations.
Federal prosecutors said investigators are also seeing rising online extremist networks that pressure children to create abuse material and self-harm images, prompting renewed warnings for parents to closely monitor internet use.
