Plex Poll Finds 80% Own Lifetime Pass as Price Jumps 300% to $749.99

Nearly 5,000 poll respondents showed 79.7% of Plex users who pay for the service already hold a Lifetime Pass, far outstripping every other payment option.
That matters because Plex will raise the Lifetime Pass price 300% to $749.99 on July 1, after earlier 2025 Plex Pass increases and a June 1 Remote Watch Pass hike.
Only 6% of voters pay via subscriptions, while about 14% said they use Plex but would never pay; Remote Watch Pass and standard Plex Pass drew just 1.5% and 4.4%, respectively.
Existing Lifetime Pass owners avoid the increase, but the new pricing could push prospective home-server users toward subscriptions or alternatives such as Jellyfin.
Is Plex’s 300% price hike a necessary business move or a betrayal of its loyal user base?
With Plex's new $750 price, can free alternatives like Jellyfin finally offer a truly mainstream-friendly experience?
