Thousands filled SDSU Mission Valley River Park on Thursday for funeral prayers for Amin Abdullah, Nadir Awad and Mansour Kaziha, the three men killed in Monday's shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego.
The men were hailed as heroes for disrupting the gunmen and protecting more than 140 children inside the mosque; Abdullah, the center's security guard, exchanged gunfire, while Awad ran toward the mosque and Kaziha was remembered as a longtime shopkeeper.
After the Janazah prayer, mourners escorted the bodies to La Vista Memorial Park near National City, where relatives lowered them into their graves and placed soil by hand in keeping with Islamic burial rites.
More than 100 UC San Diego students and interfaith supporters had gathered the night before for a vigil, underscoring broader solidarity after an attack that shattered a place worshippers said should have been safe.
