A roughly 3-hour hands-on session left Game Informer calling Black Flag Resynced a faithful remake that modernizes the 2013 original without changing what made it stand out.
Ubisoft’s update centers on sharper visuals, re-recorded voice lines and quality-of-life changes, with the Caribbean setting described as the series’ second-largest explorable world after Odyssey’s Greece.
Combat and movement saw the biggest gameplay overhaul: Edward Kenway now gets more action-heavy attacks, a new parry system and parkour upgrades aligned with 2025’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
The preview also points to added content, including new shanties, tweaks to the modern-day story and new endgame missions, though the outlet said those changes still need to prove themselves.
Even with that caution, the early verdict was strongly positive, with the remake framed as a promising first test of Ubisoft’s remake strategy before its planned July release.
