Anthony Blaine Manning, 59, and Barbara Ann Manning, 76, were indicted May 18 and jailed May 19 in Boyle County over Anna Lee Manning’s 1992 killing after her disappearance went unsolved for decades.
Anthony faces murder, tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse charges, while his mother was charged with complicity in those offenses, reflecting investigators’ view that Anna was killed in 1992 despite being reported missing in 1994.
Detectives spent Wednesday digging behind Barbara Manning’s Spring Valley Road home for evidence tied to the case, though authorities have not said whether they found human remains.
The search returned to property investigators also excavated in 2016, while relatives told local media they had long believed Anna’s body was buried there.
Anna Lee Manning was 23 when she was last seen on Nov. 19, 1992, in Junction City, and the Boyle County Sheriff’s Office says the cold-case investigation is still ongoing.
