Lionsgate moved the two-part sequel’s release plan again, setting Part One for May 6, 2027 and pushing Part Two a full year later to May 25, 2028.
Jaakko Ohtonen was revealed in a first-look image as Jesus Christ, taking over the role Jim Caviezel played in 2004’s 'The Passion of the Christ'.
The sequel, which has wrapped production, also stars Mariela Garriga, Pier Luigi Pasino, Kasia Smutniak, Riccardo Scamarcio and Rupert Everett; Mel Gibson called it a 20-year mission.
The reshuffle also gave March 26, 2027 to Johnny Depp thriller 'Daydrinker', directed by Marc Webb and co-starring Madelyn Cline and Penélope Cruz.
Gibson’s original 'Passion' grossed more than $610 million worldwide and remains the highest-grossing independent film, underscoring the stakes for Lionsgate’s release strategy.
