Sherri Delle Mauldin, 61, was sentenced Monday to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty in Greene County Superior Court to sexually abusing a 15-year-old student.
The judge also imposed 25 years of probation and sex-offender registration, though prosecutors had sought a longer term over the age gap, the teacher-student relationship and abuse they said spanned a month.
Mauldin's lawyer had asked for probation only, while Mauldin told the court she was in a "dark place" and expressed remorse.
The case grew out of a wider investigation at Nathanael Greene Academy after former teacher Bonnie Elizabeth Brown, 26, was accused of sexual contact with the same student; her trial is set for next month.
That scandal shut down the private Christian school, which had operated since 1959, and the victim has said school officials failed to protect him.
