Rob O’Neill said Graham Platner crossed a line by writing that a soldier wounded in a Taliban clash "didn't deserve to live," calling the resurfaced Reddit post "completely barbaric."
O’Neill rejected Platner’s explanation that PTSD helped drive a string of incendiary posts, saying repeated attacks on fellow service members reflected "vile hatred," not a valid excuse.
The criticism widened beyond that post: O’Neill also faulted Platner over resurfaced remarks about "American Sniper" Chris Kyle and said the candidate’s overall record shows he is unfit for the Senate.
Democrats have largely avoided condemning Platner as more inflammatory material emerges, while some allies have dismissed parts of it as "locker room talk."
Platner, a combat veteran running for Maine’s Senate seat, has not commented in this report; O’Neill said he still believes in forgiveness and wants to see how Platner conducts himself going forward.
