A 13-year-old at Drake Middle School in Colorado said she was blocked from presenting a pro-life slam poem for a class assignment on conflicts students care about.
School staff told the student and her mother the poem contained offensive material and was too political, even though the mother said other class topics included race, LGBTQ rights and immigration.
The student said her teacher first told her she could not stay in the room during classmates' presentations, then later said she could remain and listen.
Videos posted Tuesday by Libs of TikTok showed the girl reading the poem and her mother explaining the issue's personal importance, saying her own mother gave birth to her at 14.
Jeffco Public Schools and Drake Middle School did not immediately respond to requests for comment, leaving the dispute centered on the family's account.
