Trump said Thursday he called off signing an executive order on AI cybersecurity because he disliked parts of the directive and did not want it to become “a blocker.”
The order was meant to address cybersecurity risks posed by powerful new AI models, but Trump signaled he wants revisions before approving it.
A White House signing ceremony had been scheduled for Thursday afternoon in the Oval Office before the postponement.
Trump framed the delay as part of balancing AI safeguards with U.S. competitiveness, saying earlier he did not want the measure to hinder America’s lead over China.
