James Talarico, Texas Democrats’ Senate nominee, endorsed Johnny Garcia in the 35th District runoff, adding to a coordinated push to block Maureen Galindo before the May 26 vote.
Galindo drew bipartisan condemnation after posting that she would turn a local ICE detention center into “a prison for American Zionists and former ICE officers”; she says her remarks targeted “billionaire Zionists,” not Jews.
Nearly $1 million from Lead Left PAC has boosted Galindo since she finished first in the March 3 primary, alarming national Democrats and prompting criticism over the PAC’s reported links to Republican fundraising platform WinRed in its website metadata.
Garcia already has backing from the DCCC and Blue Dog Coalition, while Talarico said he would not campaign with Galindo if she wins and two House Democrats vowed to force expulsion votes if she were elected.
The runoff carries added stakes because Republicans redrew the district last year from safely Democratic to one that would have backed Donald Trump by 10 points.
