PS5 Overtakes PS4 in US Launch-Aligned Users by 2% After 66 Months

PS5 is now ahead of PS4 in U.S. launch-aligned lifetime users, with an installed base 2% larger 66 months into both consoles’ cycles.
A strong holiday period helped Sony’s console erase a long-running gap; as of last November, PS5 was still trailing PS4 by 2 million units worldwide.
U.S. sales momentum has weakened more recently: PS5 sold 30% fewer units than a year earlier after Sony raised the price by $100.
Even so, PS5 remains the second-best-selling console in the region so far in 2026, behind only Nintendo Switch 2.
The lead may be fragile, with Sony expecting a sharp hardware sales decline this fiscal year as higher prices slow the long migration from PS4.
