Google, Luma Launch End-to-End AI Platforms, Cutting TV Production From 8 Weeks to 1

Google and Luma are shifting Hollywood AI pitches from 10- to 16-second clip generation to agentic platforms that guide projects from concept and characters to final video.
The new tools aim to fix a core studio problem: consistency. Google’s updated Flow lets users tag recurring characters, while newer models are better at physics, period style and cinematic language.
Luma says the approach is already speeding production. On MGM companion special “The Old Stories: Moses,” AI-generated backgrounds and costumes cut work from roughly six to eight weeks per TV hour to one week.
Studios are starting to adopt the model: Luma says two major Hollywood studios use its agents, while Netflix bought Ben Affleck’s AI company InterPositive and launched an AI animation studio in March.
The broader stakes are jobs and output. Faster workflows could reduce labor demand even if backers argue lower costs will unlock more productions in a Los Angeles market where shooting days have fallen.
Will AI democratize filmmaking for indie creators, or will it consolidate power within major Hollywood studios?
As AI accelerates production, is Hollywood entering a creative renaissance or an era of mass-produced, generic content?
From Concept to Screen: The Rise of Agentic End-to-End AI in Television and Film Production
Overview
Television and film production is experiencing a major transformation with the rise of agentic, end-to-end AI platforms. These advanced systems can plan, reason, and generate creative content autonomously, handling multiple stages of the production workflow. This shift towards holistic creative systems streamlines complex processes, reduces manual work, and opens up new creative opportunities for studios. Companies like Luma AI are leading this change by building unified multimodal AI systems that integrate reasoning and generation in a single model, marking a significant step forward in how content is conceived and produced.
