Michael Franzese told Sean Hannity’s podcast that his gas-tax fraud operation worked by collecting fuel taxes from customers and not remitting them to the government.
The former Colombo crime family capo said he brought his boss about $2 million a week, while his own take ran roughly $3 million to $4 million weekly.
Franzese said the broader scheme averaged $7 million to $8 million a week and kept affiliated gas stations busy by pricing fuel 2 to 4 cents below rivals.
He described the operation as highly intricate and said the lower pump prices helped earn participants a “Robin Hoods” reputation, even as authorities later cast it as one of the largest U.S. racketeering cases.
