India Blocks Cockroach Janta Party X Account After 15 Million Follow Satirical Youth Revolt

India blocked the Cockroach Janta Party’s official X account with a notice citing a legal demand, hitting a fast-growing protest movement that says it has more than 160,000 members.
The group erupted after Chief Justice Surya Kant likened unemployed young Indians to “cockroaches,” a remark he later distanced himself from after a social-media backlash.
Abhijeet Dipke’s online joke has since turned into a political campaign attacking Narendra Modi’s government over rising living costs, missing jobs and problems with federally run university exams.
Those grievances have deepened as the rupee slid to nearly 97 per U.S. dollar from 85 a year earlier, fuel costs jumped after the Iran war and graduate unemployment stayed near 40% for ages 15 to 25.
Dipke said the movement would remain peaceful and democratic, underscoring how economic strain and youth frustration are spilling into organized online dissent in India.

Overview
On May 21, 2026, the X account of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) was blocked, following a surge of youth discontent fueled by widespread frustration over unemployment and NEET UG exam controversies. The CJP, founded just days earlier by Abhijeet Dipke, quickly gained popularity as a satirical response to Chief Justice Surya Kant’s remarks comparing unemployed youth to 'cockroaches.' These remarks sparked strong backlash online, helping the CJP become a symbol of protest. The government’s move to block the account highlights the growing tension between digital activism and state control during a period of intense public unrest.
