A hidden Android Auto developer menu lets users raise the video stream to as much as 1920x1080, producing sharper street names, lane guidance and app icons on supported displays.
By default, Android Auto often sends 800x480 or 1280x720 feeds because its connection handshake favors stability and low bandwidth across many phones, cars and Wi-Fi chips.
The setting is buried behind repeated taps on the app version number, then a developer-settings menu where users can select a higher video resolution before reconnecting the phone.
Older cars or aftermarket head units may briefly blank if they cannot handle 1080p, but the system treats the change as an upper limit and falls back to a lower resolution rather than damaging the screen.
