Iran’s football team halted training in southern Turkey on Thursday to pursue travel visas for the US and Canada ahead of the FIFA World Cup.
The move points to Iran’s intention to participate in the tournament, which opens on June 11 and will be co-hosted by the US, Canada and Mexico.
Anadolu Agency said the visa effort comes as Tehran and Washington are also trying to end hostilities, adding a diplomatic backdrop to the team’s travel preparations.
