Two South Korean activists were deported and returned home after Israeli forces intercepted their aid boats near Gaza and briefly detained them, Seoul said.
South Korea said Israel seized the Lina Al Nabulsi on Monday and the Kyriakos X on Tuesday in international waters while the vessels were trying to deliver humanitarian aid.
Presidential spokeswoman Kang Yu-jung said the two nationals were released promptly and were not sent to a detention center, as Seoul expressed strong regret over the detentions.
The case drew added attention because President Lee had called Netanyahu a “war criminal” and said Israel had gone too far, signaling a blunter South Korean line on the Gaza war.
