Marion County deputies arrested 25-year-old Andres Bahamon on Monday after suspected human remains were found buried in a rolled carpet at a Dunnellon property tied to his missing father.
Detectives shifted the case to a homicide investigation after finding a bullet-damaged glass door, a shell casing, suspected bloodstains and freshly disturbed backyard dirt while probing 43-year-old Andres Bahamon-Prada's disappearance.
An arrest affidavit says Bahamon's grandmother told investigators he said his father was dead and "in hell," and detectives also reviewed a photo allegedly sent to his mother in Germany showing a motionless man matching the victim's description.
Bahamon was charged with tampering with evidence, not homicide, as authorities work to identify the remains and search for Bahamon-Prada's missing silver 2007 Infiniti M35, which they believe may hold evidence.
What did a witness's security camera reveal about the victim's final days?
Why would a son who buried his father send a photo of the crime to his own mother?
