Thirty percent of registered voters say the April 25 shooting targeting President Donald Trump at the WHCA dinner was fabricated, while 52% say it was real and 18% are unsure, according to a Fox News poll.
The split is sharply partisan: 49% of Democrats and 48% of 2024 Harris voters call it staged, versus 10% of Republicans; 79% of Republicans and 77% of Trump voters say it was real.
Younger voters show more skepticism, with 38% of those under 35 saying the attack was fake versus 20% of seniors; among Republicans, those under 45 are far likelier than older Republicans to doubt it.
The alleged gunman, Cole Tomas Allen, has pleaded not guilty to four felony charges filed by the Justice Department after what authorities describe as the third attempt on Trump’s life.
The May 15-18 survey of 1,002 registered voters underscores widening distrust over basic facts, which the pollsters said could further weaken political consensus and policymaking.
