AI developers would have to give the U.S. government access to covered frontier models 90 days before public release under a draft Trump executive order, and consult officials before launch.
Within 30 days, agencies would be directed to expand AI use across federal systems and critical infrastructure operators such as community banks, rural hospitals and utilities.
Treasury would lead a voluntary clearinghouse with AI companies and infrastructure owners to identify and patch vulnerabilities, backed by CISA, the NSA and the Office of the National Cyber Director.
A 60-day classified benchmarking process would define which systems count as "covered frontier models," with the NSA making final determinations after interagency consultation.
The order also tells OPM to step up hiring through the U.S. Tech Force, reflecting a broader push to tighten oversight of advanced AI while accelerating government adoption.
